Congratulations to Liam Nolan, the young Galway Golf Club member, on winning the Brabazon Cup, — that’s the trophy offered to the winner of the English Amateur Open Championship. The Open was played on the renowned Sunningdale Course. Not surprisingly Nolan is now eyeing up the composition of the British and Irish Walker Cup team. Fingers crossed.

Maigh Cuilinn enter this weekend’s Basketball Ireland Superleague matchup in the rare position of being favourites away from home when they travel to Dublin to face St. Vincent’s of Glasnevin.

William Fitzgerald of Craughwell made it a double celebration as he raced home to a superb silver medal after always being at the front of affairs in an enthralling race won by Michael Murphy of Tullamore.

The Craughwell Senior Women’s team had another outstanding day at Round 2 of the National League held in Athlone Indoor Arena. Managed by Sarah Finnegan, the team put in some top-drawer performances across the range of events to qualify for the final in second place on the leader board, just one point off table toppers DSD AC.

The team comprising Sarah Finnegan, Siofra Davis, Caoimhe Kilkenny, Jade Moorhead, Leonore Church, Eva Kelleher, Grace McKermitt, Rachel Finnegan, Sinead Treacy, Aisling Keady, Laura Cunningham Sinead Gaffney and Holly Shaughnessy now go forward to the National final.
