Passionate about the fortunes of the flagship maroon and white inter-county teams and club matters, he also has a significant interest in Galway United, Galway WFC, and local junior soccer.

Cian O'Connell, who has recently returned to work at the Galway Advertiser is a passionate follower of many sports. In the Advertiser GAA podcast he hopes to showcase what is happening on a local level every week, in partnership with Colm Gannon of The Mayo Advertiser.
