Thousands are expected to flock to the city centre in the coming weeks as the official opening of the Galway Christmas Market tomorrow (Friday) signals the beginning of the festive period in Galway. The market will have an extended run this year, bringing cheer to the city centre right up to January 7.

Jimmy Duggan who passed away this week at the age of 93, was once described as “the best pound-for-pound hurler in Ireland.”
He, like his brothers Sean and Paddy (Mogan) was born into a hurling tradition in College Road, Galway City and “the Duggans” were to become, and still are, household names throughout hurling communities, all over the country.

The much-anticipated Galway Science and Technology Festival’s Exhibition Day will be held on the University of Galway campus on Sunday November 12. Free tickets for exhibition day shows and workshops will be released on Saturday November 4 at 9am on GalwayScience.ie.
There will be 25 shows and hands-on workshops running all day long in addition to over 80 demonstrations and interactive exhibitions. In just 15 days time, the festive spirit will hit Galway when the Christmas Market Galway opens in Eyre Square, kicking off eight weeks of fun and frolics in the city centre.
The event, now n its 13th year, will open on on Friday November 10 bringing Christmas cheer to Eyre Square right up until Friday December 22. The vintage amusements and The View Wheel will continue to operate until Christmas Eve and then on December 26, a scaled-back version of the Christmas Market will re-open on both Eyre Sq North and on the Plaza in Kennedy Park.
