Purple Flag judges are in town this weekend

Two years ago Galway was awarded the Purple Flag status —an international accreditation awarded to cities and towns that meet a standard of excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy. Galway is now working to renew the status and will play host this coming weekend to a judging panel from the Association of Town & City Management (ATCM).

Galway City, as one of over 70 towns and cities across Ireland and the UK, is currently seeking full renewal of its prestigious Purple Flag award. The awarding of the Purple Flag demonstrates that Galway is an entertaining, diverse, safe and enjoyable place for a night out.

Creganna Medical, part of TE Connectivity revealed today that it is to invest a further $13 million in its Galway facilities to enable the continued growth of the company’s medical device business in Ireland.

Lohan in drive to brings historic prints home to Galway

City councillor Mark Lohan is working with the City Heritage Officer and the National Museum of Ireland to bring 17 early 20th century prints of Menlo and Coolough villages back to Galway. The artworks are currently held in storage in the Museum of Country Life in Mayo and agreement is being made to commission copies and have the collection permanently displayed in Galway City.

NUI Galway recruiting participants for online chronic pain study

The Centre for Pain Research at NUI Galway is currently recruiting people with chronic pain (pain that has lasted for 3 months or more) to take part in a trial of the ‘Pain Course’, a free online pain self-management programme. The study offers adults living with chronic pain the opportunity to avail of this eight-week Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy course, in the comfort of their own home.

The ‘Pain Course’ was developed by a team of experts at MacQuarie University in Sydney, Australia. The Centre for Pain Research at NUI Galway, in collaboration with the research team at MacQuarie University, is conducting a research trial of the ‘Pain Course’ with adults who experience chronic pain and live in Ireland. As many people with chronic pain are unable to access specialist pain management services, this course provides people with a programme that teaches them about and how to manage chronic pain, with clinician telephone support, in their own home.
