The astro-turf facility at Cappagh Park will be getting floodlights next year, which will allow the facility to stay open into the late evening. The news was described as “very positive” by one councillor.
At Monday’s city council meeting, councillors were informed that floodlights will be erected at the astro-turf facility at Cappagh Park. Tender documents have been prepared, a company to carry out the work is to be chosen, and works will begin in early 2020. It will be fully funded by the council and will not depend on funding from the Capital Sports Grants.

TUSLA does not have the ability to shut down non-compliant creches due to flaws in the legislation, and urgently needs to be given those powers by the Government, a Galway TD has demanded.
Fianna Fáil spokesperson on children and youth affairs, Anne Rabbitte, is calling on the Minister for Children, Katherine Zappone, to extend powers to TUSLA to “punish non-compliant creches”, including making it “impossible” for any management team or company involved with “very poor levels of service” to operate a creche in the State.
