ATU graduate exhibition opens tomorrow

The annual ATU Department of Creative Arts and Media exhibition of students’ work from of the art, design, film, and documentary undergraduate programmes will be formally opened by Lelia Doolan tomorrow, Friday, June 2, at 2pm in the Wellpark Road, Galway city campus.

Several hundred guests are expected to attend the exhibition, a hallmark event on the cultural calendar of Galway. As the academic year ends, the exhibition celebrates the culmination of countless hours of hard work, exploration, and creative endeavour by the students.

An award-winning children’s author from Galway, Ms Forde will hold the title from now until 2026, taking up the position from the outgoing Laureate, Áine Ní Ghlinn.

By honouring an artist of exceptional talent and commitment, Laureate na nÓg champions and celebrates literature for children and young people, inspiring generations of writers, illustrators and readers. It is an initiative of the Arts Council, administered by Children’s Books Ireland with the support of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Global cybersecurity leader to create 50 jobs in city

Galway’s streak of good fortune on the jobs creation front continued this week with the news that Centripetal, the global leader in intelligence powered cybersecurity, has opened its European Cyber Intelligence Centre of Excellence in the city to address cybersecurity opportunities in the UK, Ireland and across Europe.

Additionally, the company is enabling cloud-based deployments of its CleanINTERNET® solution for total enterprise protection. Centripetal is headquartered in the US and has plans to create 50 jobs in Galway. The project is supported by the Government of Ireland through IDA Ireland.
