Ford Vertrek concept previews sportier and more stylish compact SUV

Ford Motor Company has unveiled its vision for a sleeker, sportier and more stylish compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) at the 2011 North American International Auto Show taking place this week inDetroit. The Ford Vertrek concept previews the company’s ambition for a next-generation, global compact SUV that could lead the industry in both design and fuel efficiency.

The Ford Vertrek concept is based on Ford’s global C-segment platform, which includes the all-new Ford Focus range launching during the first quarter in 2011 in North America and Europe, plus the latest C-MAX and Grand C-MAX multi-activity vehicles. It represents the vision of the company’s top design and engineering talent on how best to attract and satisfy future sport utility vehicle customers around the world.

A third of Irish men criticise female motorists

Men were quicker to lambast the opposite sex about their driving skills. This is according to the results of the AA Motor Insurance winter poll where more than 7,500 motorists were asked to rate various categories of road users on a scale of excellent to very poor.

Overall a third of male drivers talked about their female counterparts in a disparaging light.

New car registrations off to strong start

New car sales in Ireland are off to a strong start recording a 41 per cent increase in new registrations against the first 10 days in 2010, according to statistics supplied bt Motorcheck.ie

Commenting on the statistics Shane Teskey, MD at Motorcheck.ie said: 'Traditionally a very busy time for the motor industry, it's encouraging to see an increase in these early January statistics.

2010 road deaths fall to record low

A total of 212 people were killed on Ireland’s roads last year, a record low for the country. However, while a fall in road fatalities, down by 26 on the 2009 figure, is good news, there were still more than 200 too many deaths on our roads, with hundreds more badly injured.

Ten people died during last month, down from 18 in December 2009.
