GMIT announces inaugural summer camp for young entrepreneurs

GMIT School of Business will run a free Young Entrepreneur Summer Camp for 20 second level students this summer. The programme is part of a national initiative, announced earlier this year by the Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, funded by the Higher Education Authority.

Kevin McDonagh and Ivan McPhillips, lecturers in enterprise, creativity, and innovation, will lead the delivery of the camp from the GMIT Innovation Hub at the Dublin Road, Galway, campus. The summer camp is for secondary school students in Galway city and county, aged 12 to 17 years. It will run from Monday July 17 to Friday July 21, from 10am to 4pm (except Friday, when it runs from 10am to 1pm). Participation is free and lunch/refreshments are provided each day.

A SciFest fair consists of a competition and exhibition of projects, a prize-giving ceremony, and also includes a selection of science talks, and science demonstrations in the college laboratories.

It is usually presented as a chance to mature, to expand your horizons, and develop your interests. However, it is also often dismissed as a ‘doss year’, and while some students claim that it helped them a great deal, others agree with that consensus.
