Cocaine Bear came out last week in Irish cinemas. It’s one of those movies that I would consider entirely review/critic proof. I really think if you hear the title of the film you have a pretty good idea if it’s a movie you will enjoy or not. A bit like Snakes On A Plane in 2006. It blew up the internet a few months ago with an absolutely sensational trailer with the song White Lines by Melle Mel and I’ve been looking forward to it since then.

Fearghas Mac Lochlainn, the Spiddal author of this scintillating book, is delighted. He says: "I'm chuffed. It is fantastic that a book written in the Irish language has been shortlisted. Paddy Donnelly, the brilliant artist who illustrated the book, deserves much of the credit here! I am also much indebted to Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin and Futa Fata who asked me to write the book in the first place and then put An Slipéar Gloine into the hat for the Reics Carló award (which it won), and for the KPMG award."

Mary Coughlan organises Big Gig in aide of Syria and Turkey earthquake victims

Mary Coughlan was listening to the radio when she heard Anne O'Rourke, founder of TIAFI, an organisation dedicated to helping vulnerable women and children across Turkey and Syria. "I heard Anne on the news a week after the earthquake. She is from Waterford, and she has been living and working in a refugee camp on the Turkish Syrian border for years. Following the earthquake, she had an influx of about 26,000 people looking for help, some of whom had lost every member of their family.

Connemara based production company collaborating with Cairde Sligo Arts Festival

Cairde Sligo Arts Festival is one of two Irish festivals leading projects as part of EFFEA - the European Festival Fund for Emerging Artists. Cairde will be working with Aoife and Mark Carry of Twisted Lane Productions, a Spectacle Theatre company based in Connemara. Twisted Lane aim to excite, intrigue and astonish audiences with the highest quality, one of a kind spectacle experience. Aoife and Mark have been working internationally on large scale circus and spectacle shows since 2014 and have worked with companies like Cirque Du Soleil, Franco Dragone and MGM. They are excited to bring this extensive experience in large scale spectacle into their own work, and to a wider Irish audience.
