Galway farmers warned of need to protect farm business data

Ifac, Ireland’s farming, food and agribusiness specialist professional services firm, is reminding Galway farmers to protect their farm data. Almost 80% of farmers surveyed by Ifac for its 2021 Irish Farm Report now use technology in their business every day. While this brings advantages in terms of streamlining processes, saving time and boosting productivity, it also introduces digital and cyber risks that farmers need to understand and manage, with financial losses and the leaking of confidential data being two of the major worries.

“As more farms rely on email, online banking, apps, e-commerce and automated farming equipment, it is vital to manage the risks associated with these technologies”, says Philip O’Connor, Head of Farm Support at ifac.

Boost for west as Charles River announces €8M expansion for Covid 19 vaccine testing facility

Contract research organisation Charles River Laboratories International Inc. this week announced plans for an €8M expansion of its testing capabilities at its Ballina, Co. Mayo site that will give an additional 1,500m2 of lab space and create up to 90 new skilled roles over the next three years.

Charles River Laboratories and AstraZeneca have maintained a strategic partnership since 2012, providing AstraZeneca with outsourced regulated safety and development support on a range of treatments and vaccines, including testing and facilitating the deployment of the vaccines Vaxzevria for COVID-19 and Fluenz for seasonal infleunza.

ÉireComposites announces partnership with Manna Galway

GMIT lecturer Ivan McPhillips wins Enterprise Ireland academic award

Ivan McPhillips, GMIT Business School lecturer, and co-founder of the GMIT Youth Entrepreneur Summer Camp, has won the 2021 Enterprise Ireland Academic Award in recognition of his involvement in and the promotion of the annual Student Entrepreneur Awards competition since 1997.

The Rahoon-based academic, who lectures in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Rural Development in GMIT’s Galway city campus, was announced as the winner of a trophy and a cheque for €1000 from Enterprise Ireland at the virtual awards presentation ceremony last weekend.
