Two new gardaí for Galway

It is expected that two new Garda recruits will join the Galway force this month.

The news was revealed at a meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee, where Superintendent Marie Skehill said two new Garda were recruited in the city and three in Salthill in December.

Superintendent Skehill also said there had not been recruitment for the gardaí for some time but interviews are under way to increase numbers.

Man assaulted in Loughrea

On Monday March 26 just before 7pm, a man was assaulted by another male on the main street in Loughrea.

The man received injuries to his face during the assault.

Anyone who was in Loughrea town on Monday evening and witnessed anything in relation to this incident on Main Street is asked to contact Loughrea Garda Station on 091 842870.

Burglary in Ballinasloe

The NCT Centre in Poolboy, Ballinasloe, was broken on the night of Thursday March 22.

A safe with a large amount of cash was taken with considerable damage done to the alarm system and to the premises.

Any information on this or anyone who noticed anything out of the ordinary around Poolboy in Ballinasloe on the Thursday night in question is asked to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 090 9631897.

Spiddal pub break-in

A pub in Spiddal was broken into on Saturday night, March 24/Sunday morning, March 25, between 4 and 6am.

A safe was removed from the premises, however, access was not gained to the safe. The CCTV system was stolen from the pub.

Anyone who noticed unusual activity in Spiddal village during Saturday night is asked to contact the Garda in Spiddal or at Salthill on 091 514720.

Rahoon break-in

A house in the Rosan Glas estate in Rahoon was broken into on Saturday March 24 between 8pm and 10pm.

A considerable amount of cash was taken from the home.

Anyone with information or anyone who lives in the area and noticed anything out of the ordinary on Saturday evening is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720.

Cappagh Road robbery

On Saturday evening March 24, a house in Ros Ard on the Cappagh Road was robbed.

A man’s wedding band, lady’s watch, and two necklaces were taken.

One of these was a teardrop pearl necklace and the other a plain gold, linked necklace.

Anyone who noticed anything out of the ordinary in the Ros Ard area or if they have heard of any of these items for sale, is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720.

Tools taken from house in Renmore

Between Saturday afternoon, March 24, and Monday morning, March 26, a house under construction was broken into on the Dublin Road in Renmore.

A number of tools were taken including a Makita skill saw, a DeWalt saw saw, and two Bosch kangoos, a large and a small.
