Minute’s silence held for women who died in Ballinasloe road tragedy

Members of the Galway County Council held a minute’s silence at their meeting this week as a mark of respect to two Ballinasloe women who lost their lives in a road accident.

Friends Deirdre Kilmartin and Maureen Dooley died after they were struck by a car involved in a collision with another vehicle while out walking on Station Road in the town last week.

Local councillor Dermot Connolly led the tributes to the two women at Monday’s local authority meeting. “They were two wonderful ladies,” Cllr Connolly said. “What a loss it will be to their families and to the entire community in Ballinasloe.”

Assault in Loughrea

Gardai are appealing for information following an assault in Loughrea earlier this week.

This incident occurred on the town's main street just before 7pm on Monday. A man was set upon by another man and received facial injuries. Anyone who was in Loughrea town on Monday evening and witnessed this incident is asked to contact Loughrea Garda Station at 091 842870.

Ballinasloe NCT centre burgled

The NCT centre in Poolboy, Ballinasloe, was burgled last week, and a safe containing a large sum of cash was stolen.

The premises and the alarm system were also significantly damaged in this raid, which occurred overnight on Wednesday March 21/Thursday March 22. Anyone with information, or who noticed anything out of the ordinary in Poolboy on the night of the break-in, is asked to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station at 09096 31897.

Burglaries in Rahoon/Knocknacarra

A house in the Rosan Glas estate in Rahoon was broken in to on Saturday, March 24.

This burglary occurred between 8pm and 10pm. A substantial sum of cash was taken from the home.

Also on Saturday evening, a house in Ros Ard on the Cappagh Road was burgled. A man's wedding band, a lady's watch, and two necklaces were taken. One of the necklaces was a tear drop pearl necklace and the other a plain gold, linked necklace.

Anyone with information, anyone who lives in this area and noticed unusual activity on Saturday evening, or anyone who is offered any of these items for sale, is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091 514720.

Burglary in Renmore

A house under construction was broken into on the Dublin Road in Renmore over the course of last weekend.

This burglary occurred some time between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning. A number of tools were taken, including a Makita skill saw, a De Walt saw and two Bosch kangos, one large and one small. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.

Burglary in Spiddal

A pub in Spiddal was burgled in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

This break-in occurred between 4am and 6am. A safe was removed from the premises, but the thieves did not gain access to the safe. The CCTV system was stolen from the pub. Anyone who noticed unusual activity in Spiddal village on Saturday night or Sunday morning is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station at 091 514720.
