FRANCESCO TURRISI, a leading voice in the European jazz/improv for more than 20 years, will make his Galway debut when he plays The Mick Lally Theatre for Piano Day 2018.
Described by The Irish Times as "a musical alchemist" and by All About Jazz as "one of the most striking voices to have emerged on the European jazz scene in the past decade", Turrisi makes his Galway debut on Thursday March 29 at 8pm. The event will include a talk by piano maker David Klavins.
Italian-born, Irish based, Turrisi will perform on a conventional Steinway grand piano, and on a hand-built 'Una Corda' piano, created by David Klavins, which gives a quieter, more subtle, and warmer sound than conventional modern pianos. This will be the first time an Una Corda piano will be heard in Ireland.
The show is presented by the Galway Jazz Festival to mark Piano Day 2018. Tickets are €16 via www.druid.ie or 091 - 568660.
