IN 2012 they caught and excited many ears with their debut album, Yours Sincerely Dr Hardcore. In 2013 they announced their break up. In 2016 they reformed, and last year released a new album.
Gallops, the Welsh experimental rock-electronica band, play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh, on Thursday March 29 at 9pm, performing music from Yours Sincerely Dr Hardcore and last year's Bronze Mystic.
That 2012 debut won much acclaim. Clash Music memorably described it as "if Super Mario himself started an innovative metal outfit in The Mushroom Kingdom, influenced by John Carpenter scores". After touring the album and performing at a number of festivasl, they called it a day. Three years later they returned. “We missed it too much, basically having some time away from the band gave us a fresh perspective and made us realise that Gallops still has life in it," the band - Mark Huckridge (guitar, electronics, keyboards, percussion ), Liam Edwards (drums ), and Brad Whyte (guitar/keyboards ) - have said.
Bronze Mystic finds Gallops mixing post-rock, dark ambience, esoterica, guitar, electronics, and industrial-tinged noise. “The move towards a more electronic sound has been a natural progression," says Huckridge. "These days we tend to be more excited by the possibilities of electronic music than we do by traditional instrumentation.”
