‘All nominees are winners,’ says Mayor in call for Mayor’s Awards nominations

“All the volunteers who are nominated for a Mayor’s Award are already winners in their own right,” said Mayor of Galway Cllr Pearce Flannery this week as he launched the 15th annual Mayor’s Awards. The Mayor is calling on people to nominate volunteers for their work in communities in the city.

The Mayor’s Awards acknowledge outstanding people and organisations throughout the city who, through their commitment to participating in unpaid community and voluntary activities, have had a significant impact on the quality of life of their communities in Galway city.

Individuals or organisations can be nominated for the nine individual Mayor’s Awards — the Arts, Culture, Heritage, and Cúrsaí Gaeilge Award; Residents and Local Areas Award; Community Service and Social Inclusion Award; Older Volunteer of the Year Award; Sports Volunteer of the Year Award; Children and Youth Support Award; Young Volunteer of the Year; Environmental Sustainability Award; and the Galway City Council Volunteer of the Year Award.

Each of the award winners will receive a specially commissioned trophy and a payment of €500.

All nominees will be presented with an individually designed Mayoral Certificate at the awards ceremony, which will be held in May in the Galmont Hotel, Galway.

The closing date for nominations is April 10 and nomination forms are available from City Hall, the city libraries, and to download from www.galwaycity.ie/community-culture/mayors-awards
