Open day at GTI on March 6

An open day will take place at Galway Technical Institute on Tuesday March 6 from 10am to 4pm. The event will give prospective students an opportunity to explore the college and find out about the exciting job-driven courses on offer, and to participate in events throughout the college.

Lots of activities will be happening to show how learning takes place at GTI. Practical jobs-focused training is at the core of teaching. GTI is committed to providing skills for the current economy and maintaining its strong industry links, so students are learning to apply their skills to the job force and gain direct career opportunities.

During the open day be sure to check out the state-of-the-art facilities in all departments. You will be able to chat with current students and teachers about the different courses on offer within each department and get a genuine sense of what makes GTI such a success.

The institute aims to equip everyone with the essential tools, skills, and knowledge for the job market today and into the future. Progression to third level education is very strong at GTI, with 60 per cent of students being offered a place in colleges including NUIG, GMIT, AIT, LIT, and IT Sligo. NUIG has recently announced an increase from 60 to 170 places for PLC students across the five colleges that make up the university. GTI welcomes both school leavers and mature learners who wish to retrain or upskill.

GTI offers 55 courses across 10 departments with 13 new courses launching for 2018/2019. New courses include special needs assisting, sports and physical therapy, legal studies, business accounting, event operations and security services, hairdressing with make-up, hairdressing with barbering, electronic technology, software development, and mechatronics.

Fashion enthusiasts will have the opportunity to view some of the highly creative designs and styling photo shoots from the talented current crop of emerging talent within GTI’s fashion studio, located at Claddagh House, a one minute walk from the main campus. Enjoy a sneak preview of what to expect at the GTI Fashion Showcase, an annual fashion event that starts on the week beginning Monday April 23.
