The residential sales team in DNG Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard have reported their busiest start to a year since the downturn in 2007/08. Their latest statistics indicate that first time buyers and those trading up are the most active buyers in the current marketplace. Based on the same period last year, the Galway city based agent has seen a 12 per cent increase in the volume of houses sold, with a 13 per cent average increase in prices achieved across the city and the surrounding suburbs. While the agents are delighted with the latest figures, which are slightly higher than the average reported house prices nationwide, they are fully aware that there is a major supply problem in Galway at present.
Residential sales director, Fergal Leonard, is currently heading up the agency's latest marketing campaign which is focused on new listings, in order to meet the ever-expanding database of ready-to-purchase buyers. He said: “While the market was very active in 2017 and into the early part of this year, we are now experiencing a serious shortage of houses to sell. We have built up a database of both cash buyers and buyers with finance in place, who are ready to buy as soon as possible. All we need is houses to sell to them.”
The DNG sales team are actively seeking properties and have had some success with their latest promotion which sees successful vendors receive a €500 voucher for EZ Living. However, Mr Leonard is keen to emphasise their need for more good quality homes. “As you would expect, the highest activity in sales are in the traditional residential areas of Salthill/Knocknacarra, and Roscam/Doughiska, but we are seeing a high demand right across the city and the surrounding areas," he said.
