“Menopause and your health” is the title of an information evening being organised by GP and medical herbalist Dr Dilis Clare and her team at the g Hotel on Thursday April 2 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Admission is €15.
The presentation by the Sea Road based doctor is based on an integrated medicine approach. A cooking demonstration will bring a practical ‘hands on’ aspect to the evening which is aimed at the public.
Dr Clare, who is the chairperson of the Irish Institute of Medical Herbalists, says menopause can be a “seamless transition or fraught with difficulty” for women.
“From mild annoyance to lifeshaking disruption. At the very least it is a ‘change of life’ experience. “The balance of our hormones affects many aspects of our lives, how we sleep, our mood, stress levels, focus, concentration and circulation, (hot flushes ) in particular. Foods and herbs have great value in calming the difficulties we cope with during this time of change.”
Whether you are taking hormone replacement therapy, preparing for the menopause or in the throes of hot flushes she says this presentation will offer positive ways to cope.
Other contributors to the evening include Sarah Hughes (BSc herbal medicine ) who is an experienced medical herbalist and Liz Nolan, an nutritional therapist. All practice at the Health and Herbs Clinic at 9 Sea Road.
Booking is advisable. Telephone (091 ) 583260.
