With a wide variety of exhibitors at Jobs Expo, it is the perfect place to meet representatives from both national and international companies. We want you to make the day as productive as possible – so here are some useful tips to help you get the most out of your visit to Jobs Expo.
Make sure to bring a stack of CVs to hand out and/or business cards with your name, email and phone number. You can never have too many to give away.
Bring any references you have from current or previous employers with you. References are always key to landing a job, and great references may convince an employer to choose you over another candidate.
Write down questions in advance for employers, ask about the roles they are looking to fill, what the duties and responsibilities of the role are.
Bring a notebook and write down information about the companies you meet and any contact information.
What to wear?
Dress for success! Your first impression is vital and making an effort with your appearance conveys that you are taking Jobs Expo seriously. We recommend wearing smart business casual. No employer will ever criticise a job seeker for looking dapper, however, wearing jeans, a t-shirt and runners might not be the best way to present yourself to a potential employer.
How to maximise your time
The early bird catches the worm! Plan your route to the event and arrive early for Jobs Expo. Decide which companies you’d like to speak to first and prioritise your time for those meetings.
Practice your introduction, have your 30-second elevator pitch polished and memorised.
If you have already taken the time to research a company, don’t be shy in demonstrating that. It shows initiative and it conveys that you care about working for the company.
Be enthusiastic, courteous and polite when meeting potential employers. Don’t forget to shake hands and smile.
If you’re waiting in line, talk to fellow job seekers. They may have information about similar jobs that you’re unaware of.
Ask questions, take notes and always say thank you after a meeting.
Do your own research on the companies exhibiting and the service/jobs they offer. Compile a list of those you want to talk to.
See if there are any seminars which you would like to attend. Check when and where they are on.
Bring a pen and paper to make notes, and also some copies of your CV.
Plan your journey to/from the event. Allow sufficient time for you to visit all the stands on your list and any seminars you wish to attend.
