Do you ever feel that you and your teenagers live on different planets? Do you wish you could have a better understanding of the world of adolescents? If so, you may be interested in attending a seminar being presented in Galway by Dr Tony Bates, one of Ireland’s leading authorities on adolescence.
Entitled “Everything you ever wanted to know about teenagers but didn’t dare ask” the event takes place on Saturday March 28 at Brigid’s Garden, Roscahill from 10am to 5pm. It will offer insights into the world of teenagers and the challenges they face.
Dr Bates, a senior psychologist with 30 years’ experience working with young people, will help parents, teachers and youth workers become more aware of teenage struggles and needs. He will offer wide-ranging advice on the day-to-day issues they face in their relationships with young people.
A spokesperson for the organisers describes Dr Bates as “an engaging speaker”. “This promises to be an interactive day. As well as a lecture there will be case studies and plenty of time for questions and answers.
“Dr Bates is well-know for his fortnightly column in The Irish Times, his frequent contributions to the national media and as the founder of the teenage support charity Headstrong. He has a special relationship with Galway as he helped set up the newly-opened Jigsaw project which will co-ordinate a range of services for adolescents in the west.”
All are welcome to attend the seminar which costs €99. All proceeds from the day go to Jigsaw Galway and Brigit’s Garden, both of which are not-for-profit charities. For further details telephone (091 ) 550905 or log onto www.brigitsgarden.ie
