Galway schools celebrated success on the national stage when scooping two basketball cup titles recently.
St Paul's Oughterard claimed the boys' Subway Schools U19 B Boys All Ireland Cup final, while Colaiste Einde were crowned Under 16 Boys champions at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght
Paul Kelly from Moycullen was the star for St Paul's, helping his side to a comprehensive 69-52 victory over St Vincent’s Castleknock College. Kelly opened his scoring in the first quarter and had 19 points under his belt before the quarter finished, putting his side ahead 27-15. He added a further 10 before the half time break to ensure the title was heading west.
It was double delight for Galway schools when Colaiste Einde were 45-31 winners over Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh, Cork. Malik Thiam was the star for the Galway side with a 20-point display from the talented young student, who was supported by a strong performance from teammate J ames Webb, who chipped in with 15 points on the day.
