THIRTY YEARS on from the hit single 'Perfect' with Fairground Attraction, and 26 years after the release of her debut solo album Mirmama, Eddi Reader is still going strong, and returns to Ireland next month for a nine-date tour.
Eddi, described by The Scotsman as “one of Scotland’s greatest national treasures”, and by Jools Holland as “one of my favourite singers of all time”, will play Galway as part of that tour, performing at the Town Hall Theatre on Friday February 9 at 8pm. She will be joined by John Douglas (guitar/vocals ), Boo Hewerdine (guitar/vocals ), Alan Kelly (piano accordion ), and Kevin McGuire (double bass/vocals ).
Throughout her distinguished career, Eddi has released nine critically acclaimed solo albums, won three BRIT awards, and been made an MBE. She is currently working on her 10th album. No release date is scheduled as yet, but she will be performing songs from it on her Irish tour. She has always had a soft spot for Galway, as she told me on her last visit to the city:
“So many things happen when I come over to Ireland, I’ll have them all in my memory ’till the day I die,” Eddie said. “I remember I went to see a psychic in Galway and I remember her not really believing what she was telling me herself, but then she said something that blew my mind. I got engaged in Connemara, there’s a lot of personal and professional stuff associated with Ireland and Galway."
