Corofin get the job done in London

Galway and Connacht club champions Corofin qualified for the All-Ireland club semi-final when they easily defeated Fulham Irish (London ) by 3-8 to 1-04 in Ruislip at the weekend. They will now meet Moorfield (Kildare ) on February 17.

Corofin fell behind to a few early scores, but they soon settled into their groove. Goals from Liam Silke from a penalty and Colin Brady quelled the Londoners' early charge.

When county player Ian Burke added another major just before half-time, the game was as good as over, and Corofin never looked in any danger in the second half.

Corofin manager Kevin O’Brien ran his bench in the second half, giving game time to Dylan Canney and Darragh Silke, who was making his senior championship debut.

The standard of fare was mediocre enough, but from Corofin’s perspective, it is a job done, and they will now focus on their semi-final in three weeks’ time and a possible date in an All-Ireland final on St Patrick’s Day.

The winners of the Moorefield and Corofin game will face either Slaughneil or Nemo Rangers in the final.

Scorers for Corofin: C Brady 1-1, L Silke (pen ), I Burke 1-0 each, J Leonard 0-2 (1f ), G Sice (f ), Michael Farragher, R Steede, C Silke, Martin Farragher 0-1 each.
