Honda adds new 1.6 i-DTEC diesel to the Civic range

Honda has just added the comprehensively revised 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine to its new Civic line-up.

Honda says the new Civic diesel will sit beside the two new VTEC Turbo petrol engines that have been specifically designed to deliver powerful, engaging and efficient driving experience, giving a choice of all driving requirements. The Civic range starts from €23,750.

The new 1.6 litre diesel, which is built at Honda’s UK manufacturing plant in Swindon, delivers an outstanding combination of performance and efficiency. It produces 120PS at 4,000rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. Honda promises it goes from 0-100 km/h in 9.8 seconds. The 118bhp unit also fuel economy returns of 3.5 litres per 100kms (or 81mpg ) in ideal combined cycle conditions.

It is currently married to a six-speed manual gearbox, but there is a whisper that a nine-speed automatic transmission could be an option for the Civic diesel from this summer.
