A feast of trad music and poetry at Féile Raifteirí 09

ANTOINE Ó Raifteiri, the great Gaelic poet of the 18th and 19th centuries, will be celebrated during Féile Raifteirí from Friday March 27 to Sunday 29 in Loughrea.

This year the festival will be concentrating on Raifteiri’s poetry, singing, and music. RnaG broadcaster Máirtín Davy Ó Coistealbha will officially open the festival and Éamonn Ó Broithe will lead a discussion on Raifteirí, entitled Is Sinne Na Pócaí Folmha, on March 27.

Those taking part in the festival include the great accordion player Joe Burke, poet Louis De Paor, and Altan’s Máiréad Ní Mhaonaigh.

Also appearing are fiddlers Eilish O’Connor, Máire O’Keefe, and Aoibheann Ní Chonghalaigh, and musicians and singers Cormac Ó Beaglaoich, Déaglan Ó Doiblinn, Seán Ó Flannagáin, Úna Ní Fhlannagáin, and Tim Lyons.

There will also be singing circles organised, music and poetry sessions, lectures, and music and poetry workshops.
