A gourmet feast of piano music

Music For Galway to host concert with Nathalia Milstein and Juan Pérez Floristán

A GOURMET has refined taste in good food. A gourmand also appreciates good food, but cannot help 'pigging out' on it. If you have a passion for classical piano, you can indulge your sophisticated taste - without the risk of indigestion - at Music For Galway's 'Piano Gourmand' event.

Piano Gourmand, featuring recitals by pianists Nathalia Milstein and Juan Pérez Floristán, takes place in the Emily Anderson Concert Hall, NUI Galway, on Sunday February 4.

Nathalia Milstein, Winner of Dublin International Piano Competition 2015, will begin proceedings at 3pm, performing the world premiere of 'Dandling', a Music For Galway commission by its resident composer Sam Perkin. 'Dandling' is a term for songs sung when dancing your baby on your knee. This will be followed by Debussy's virtuosic 'Estampes'; and Schumann's 'Fantasie in C major'.

As part of the 'gourmand' theme, there will be an interlude serving tea/coffee and sweets/pastries - the title of the concert takes its name from the French Café Gourmand desserts of a coffee with a small selection of sweet delights - before Juan Pérez Floristán, winner of Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, takes to the stage at 4.30pm. The 24-year-old Spaniard will perform Beethoven's Sonata No 23 in Fm, Op. 57 ‘Appassionata’ and Mussorgsky's much loved 'Pictures At An Exhibition'.

Tickets are €20/18/6 individually and €30/27/10 for both concerts via 091 705962; www.musicforgalway.ie; and O’Maille’s Original House of Style, Shop Street.
