Witnesses sought to Eyre Square assault

Gardai are appealing for information relating to a serious assault which occurred in Eyre Square last month.

A 15-year-old boy was set upon by a number of youths while walking through the square at around 4.30pm on Friday December 8.

The youths demanded money from the boy and his friends, and when he refused he was punched and kicked, leaving him with bruising and lacerations to his face.

This happened during the Christmas market and a large number of people were in the area at the time. The boy also mentioned in his statement to gardai that a man intervened at one point. This man, or anybody with information, is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.

Theft from car in The Claddagh

A car was broken into and a number of items were stolen from the vehicle while it was parked at The Claddagh earlier this week.

The car was parked at Claddagh Place on the morning of January 15.

The owner of the vehicle went for a walk and when she returned after an hour, she found the car had been broken into.

Any residents in The Claddagh, passing motorists, or anyone who was walking in the area and noticed anyone acting suspiciously, or tampering with a green Volkswagen Tiguan between 8.20am and 9.30am on Monday, is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.

Burglary in Dunmore

An engineering plant near Dunmore town was burgled last week, and a large amount of bronze piping was stolen from the premises.

The break in occurred between the evening of Thursday January 11 and the morning of Friday January 12. About 12 or 13 lengths of 2ft - 3ft industrial size piping was stolen; this piping has substantial value.

Anyone with information on this or who noticed anything out of the ordinary around Dunmore on the night of the burglary should contact Dunmore Garda Station at 093 38131, or any local Garda station.

Attempted burglary in Mountbellew

Gardai are appealing for information following an attempted break in at a supermarket in Mountbellew this week.

A black Mazda 1 drove up to the front of the supermarket in Mountbellew town at around 5.30am on Tuesday.

Four tall men, dressed in dark clothing and wearing balaclavas, got out of the car and tried to open the side door of the shop. They were unable to open the door, and they then got back into the vehicle and drove off.

Robbery in Moycullen

Gardai are looking for information on a robbery which occurred in Moycullen village on Saturday evening.

A man entered the rear door of a bookies in the village and threatened the member of staff on duty.

Cash was taken in the course of the robbery. The detective branch at Salthill Garda Station is investigating the matter, and can be contacted at 091 514720.
