POETRY, THEATRE, and art will all be on the bill at the Galway Arts Centre's first event of 2018 - Oíche Nollaig na mBan - which will celebrate the work of female artists and mark the official end of the festive season.
The event takes place this Saturday, from 7pm to 10pm, and is curated by artist Áine Phillips. It will feature poetry by Elaine Feeney; Galway ensemble Scripts & Scribes performing a rehearsed reading of Brenda Murphy’s A Night With George Clooney; Canadian artist Melissa Cayford will present Croquembouche, showing how a woman can be sweet, sensuous, and powerful at the same time. There will also be a DJ set from Sasha von Thulen.
'Interference', a film programme, will run throughout the evening. Curated by EL Putnam, it presents a range of dynamic performance practices currently taking place in Ireland. Participating artists include Amanda Coogan, Celina Muldoon, Siobhan Mullen, Rosalind Murray, Áine Phillips, and EL Putnam.There will also be a screening of the video collage PROTEST, featuring 26 videos by 26 artists from 26 different countries by FemLink-Art. FemLink-Art is an international common video artwork project that builds links throughout the world between women artists and their work. Launched in October 2005 by Veronique Sapin and CM Judge Femlink has currently curated 250 video collages made by artists from 64 countries that have been screened across the globe.
Admission is free and all are welcome. The event is supported by the Galway City Council.
