Independent councillor for the Athenry/Oranmore, Jim Cuddy, has welcomed the acquisition of lands for an expansion of Clarenbridge Cemetery.
Over the past number of years, Cllr Cuddy has worked with the Clarenbridge Cemetery Committee, the solicitor acting for the trustees of the landowners in Clarenbridge, and council officials with a view to expanding the local cemetery.
Cllr Cuddy said; “I am delighted that the lands have now been handed over to the Galway County Council for the cemetery.
“I would personally like to thank the cemetery committee for their foresight in acquiring the additional land as the existing cemetery is rapidly filling up. A special work of thanks is also due to the solicitor who acted for the landowners in this case.
“Securing this land means there will be more than sufficient space to cater for the needs of Clarenbridge and the surrounding areas for many years.”
