Garda probe after attacker mugs teen and steals vital insulin pump

Gardai in the city are investigating an incident last weekend in which a teenage woman was attacked and had vital medical equipment stolen.

The 16-year-old had just disembarked from a bus when she was attacked near Galway Cathedral.

She is a Type 1 diabetic and was carrying her valuable insulin pump whioch she needs for her condition.

The pump is worth in the region of €4,500 but was taken by her assailant, who also stole her iPhone.

She had just arrived in the city from South Galway a short time earlier and the attack has left her shocked and traumatised.

Her assailant is described as being dressed in a dark jacket, dark trousers and dark shoes and he fled over the Salmn Weir Bridge after the attack.

Gardai are appealing to the public for help in tracking down her assailant and have been conducting seraches for the insulin pump which the young woman needs for her condition.
