Our Lady’s College, Galway, celebrates a successful first year

Our Lady's College, the newest all girls secondary school in Galway city, is celebrating its first birthday.

The first year has been a great success for this school. The rich traditions of both former schools, the combined experience of the teaching staff, and the best of facilities available to students has created a very positive, student-centred, and successful learning environment. The team are hugely proud of the school and particularly of the students.

Our Lady's College offers a wide range of programmes and subjects - from Junior Certificate to Leaving Certificate with transition year as an optional extra. As well as all the core curricular subjects on offer, Our Lady's College offers art, music, physics, chemistry, biology, and technology, all available to Leaving Certificate higher level. As part of their induction, all first year students get to sample the 14 subjects available at junior cycle before making any choices. These subjects include French, German, and Spanish.

Over the last year, the school has cemented partnerships with NUIG, GMIT, TULCA, IBM, the Galway Rowing Club, Green Schools, and many others. The student council and parents council are actively engaged in all initiatives and are a tremendous support to the school.

The staff and students work hard, aim high, and have fun along the way. The students are involved in many projects/extra-curricular activities such as global citizenship, Big Sister mentoring, Show Racism the Red Card, drama, art, card-making, music, choir, and sports. The rowing programme has been a huge success, and now all year groups are involved.

Our Lady's College is inviting all fifth and sixth class students to help celebrate the school's first year this Saturday December 2 in the Newtownsmith campus from 12 noon to 1.30pm.
