Galway Quakers to hold ‘open house’ this weekend

Galway’s Quaker community will hold an ‘open house’ this weekend where anyone interested in this form of Christianity, or merely curious about Quakers, can meet and discuss with the faith’s members.

The Quaker Open House takes place this Saturday in St Nicholas Parochial School, starting at 12 noon. Following the open house there will be an interfaith service involving members of the Christian and Muslim communities in Galway, reading verses from the Gospel and Qur’an in preparation of Christmas. This public service begins at 6pm.

Quakers, also know as the Religious Society of Friends, were founded in the early 1650s. They emphasise the importance of a direct relationship between God and believe there is something of God in everyone and that colour, class, or gender should not be a barrier to our discovering this in each other. Quakers are also known for their deep commitment to pacifism and social justice.
