City neighbourhood turns on Christmas lights this Friday!
Galway’s Westend will officially begin Christmas this Friday 1st December. The neighbourhood is turning on their Christmas lights with a community evening on Friday at 6pm in the Small Crane.
This Christmas, twelve decorated 6ft trees will be dotted throughout the Westend neighbourhood, a 20ft tree has been erected and dressed on Ravens Terrace, the canal will again be lit up with our signature light box at the lock gate and for the first time this year, the historic Small Crane will also be dressed for Christmas.
Under the directorship of Brendan Savage of Savage Creative, the Christmas Westend light display will be reflective of the culture and personality that the area is now synonymous for.
Westend legend, Ernie Deacy will officially switch on the lights, whilst music will be provided by The Crane Bar with Christmas Carols sung by The Blue Notes.
Businesses in the area will be providing refreshments, including mulled wine, festive hot tea, Christmas cookies, brownies and Westend sausage rolls.
This is an open event and everyone is welcome to attend. The Lights will be turned on at The Small Crane at 6pm.
This Christmas Galways Westend is again partnering with the Galway Samaritans and will be encouraging text donations on all signage and branding throughout the Westend area.
