St Patrick's boys primary school situated in the heart of Galway city and with a long and illustrious history dating back to the time of the Great Famine, has announced that its annual open day will take place on Wednesday November 29 2017, starting at 2pm.
Prospective parents, pupils, and members of the public are invited to experience a slice of the bustling, colourful, and structured learning environment that is St Pat's and to see for themselves all it has to offer.
St Pat's is one of the oldest primary schools in Galway and its name holds special resonance in the hearts and minds of the many hundreds of Galwegians who have passed through its doors. It is a sister school of the Patrician Secondary, St Joseph’s, “The Bish”. In one form or another it has been in existence since 1827, when the first Patrician Brothers’ school “The Old Mon” was established by Brother Paul O’Connor.
St Pat's has always been the school of choice for Galway boyss with a long tradition of excellence in many fields, Pat's pupils have access to the very best educational technology and first rate teachers. Typically, they go on to complete their secondary education in the Bish.
St Pat's is a vibrant, inclusive, and multicultural school community. It is primarily a Catholic school but is inclusive of and embraces all creeds, religions, and backgrounds. Extra-curricular activities include: table tennis, soccer, hurling, Olympic handball, rugby, basketball, chess, guitar training, choir training, drums, and brass band.
St Pat's boys are proud of the fact that they are formidable debating champions, Olympic handball (four in a row ) winners, science award winners, champion swimmers, and the recipients of four hard won flags; (green school flag, active flag, junior entrepreneur flag, and the extremely prestigious arts flag ). They are also immensely proud of the well-stocked school library and beautiful school garden.
St Pat's is very much immersed in the area of IT and has over the years forged valuable links with the Centre For Talented Youth in Galway NUIG. St Pat's has many initiatives in the pipeline including the Healthy Body/Healthy Mind project, classes for this and new Friends programme will commence in the newly refurbished activity room. St Pat's will also offer Italian classes after Christmas.
St Pat's also caters for children who have a special talent/interest in art, drama, and music. The boys are very excited about the newly formed school choir and their dulcet tones can be heard all over the school.

The preschool and after school will also be open for the open day. The school is currently taking bookings for preschool for September 2018. The after-school opens at 8am daily, and it provides after school care until 6pm. All after-school children have a warm nutritious snack after school, followed by a supervised homework hour. The school caters for all childcare subvention schemes.
