Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development and Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South, Seán Kyne TD has welcomed the decision of the board of Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI ) to immediately re-open the Galway Weir for bookings.
The decision follows a meeting between Minister Kyne, who is the minister with responsibility for inland fisheries, and the board and senior management of IFI in Dublin last week.
“I welcome the decision of the board of Inland Fisheries Ireland to re-open the Galway Weir for bookings.,” he said. “I believe the decision addresses concerns over the future of Galway Weir which will continue to play an important role for leisure activities and tourism in Galway.
“The Board assures me further that the opening hours for the Weir will not change. New prices will, I’m advised, apply for the 2018 season and are in keeping with prices being charged elsewhere, such as on the River Moy.
“The Galway Weir is an important asset for the people of Galway and it is important that such facilities are as cost effective as possible. I believe the Board has worked to strike a balance between prices and accessibility,” he concluded.
