Nominations sought for Galway People of the Year Awards

Nominations for the 2017 Galway People of the Year Awards are now being sought by the organising committee.

The awards were set up in 1995 to give public recognition to individuals and groups, who through their personal leadership, participation, courage, or achievements have made an outstanding contribution to their local communities at home or abroad.

The awards are now recognised as one of the highest accolades a person can receive in this county. Every winner will be chosen by the people of Galway through a public nomination process and will be finalised by an independent adjudication panel.

Over the years some of the winners were well known faces while others were in the spotlight for the first time. All had one thing in common - they were ordinary people who have worked incredibly hard to enrich the lives of others and are role models for the next generation.

If you know someone who has done their community proud at home or abroad, a person who brings joy and light to the lives of others, someone who have shown true strength and courage in the face of adversity, or those who have supported others in their darkest hour, why not nominate them for a Galway People of the Year award? People can also be nominated for their work in enterprise and employment, arts, culture or community involvement, charity work or sport, leadership, media, etc.

For further information or to submit a nomination contact Ollie Robinson at (087 ) 2437009 or email [email protected] Nominations close on Saturday November 25 and the winners will announced in early December.

The awards will be presented at a gala black tie event at the Galway Bay Hotel on January 27.
