Free information meeting on ageing well in Galway

COPE Galway Community Support and HSE Older People’s Services in Galway are hosting “Ageing Well in Galway”, a free information meeting, on Thursday November 23 in the Salthill Hotel, Promenade, Galway from 10am to 1.30pm.

Topics will include the Fair Deal or Nursing Home Support Scheme, Home Care Packages, Home Help, Home Improvement Grants, Community Support, Lunch Clubs and Meals on Wheels.

The meeting aims to support the voices of older people, their families and carers by providing information on key services and to promote positive ageing, independent living and planning for future care needs.

Ageing Well in Galway brings together speakers from COPE Galway, the HSE and Galway City Council along with exhibition stands from local and national organisations who support positive, active and independent ageing. There will be time for Questions and Answers. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a Free Raffle - all are welcome.

Exhibition stands will provide information to promote participation by older people in the lives of their local communities, healthy ageing and home supports.

Noelle Jennings, COPE Galway Community Support Worker said the mission of COPE Galway Senior Services is to support healthy, independent ageing at home.

“We are looking forward to bringing together older people, their families, carers and professionals to share information and experience of home care services, the Fair Deal and community supports. We want to highlight the wide range of activities and supports that are provided through community and voluntary groups to encourage older people to continue to play a valuable role in their local communities, to be healthy and active,” she said.

The Salthill Hotel can be reached by the 401 and 410 bus from Galway city centre and there is free parking at the venue.

The meeting is funded by a grant from The Community Foundation for Ireland: Supporting Older People’s Voices at a Local and National Level.
