The intermediate football championship final has been fixed for Saturday in Pearse Stadium (1pm ) according to Galwaygaa.ie
The final should see Claregalway and Williamstown in action in two days’ time, assuming that there are no further appeals from Oileain Arainn.
Extra time will be played in the event of a draw, with the winners due to play in the Connacht Intermediate championship 24 hours later in Markiewicz Park in the Connacht semi-final against Sligo champions St Mary’s.
Claregalway needed a replay and extra-time to get past a gallant Killkerrin-Clonberne outfit on a score-line of 3-12 to 2-13 a fortnight ago and Williamstown also needed a replay to defeat Oileain Arainn in their semi-final after two epic encounters.
Claregalway will look to the likes of forwards Seán Moran, Danny Cummins, Barry Goldrick, and Mark Rohan to shoot a match winning tally.
In defence they will be hopeful that former Galway goalkeeper Brian O’Donoghue, Mark Goldrick, and a half-back line of Conor Campbell, Barry Callanan, and Padraig Kearney will be able to nullify a Williamstown forward unit who are very dependent on Gary Kelly for scores.
Fixing the game for Pearse Stadium seems a tad unusual considering its distance from Williamstown, and Tuam Stadium would have seemed a more logical venue.
However, if Williamstown are crowned county intermediate champions for 2017 on Saturday afternoon they will not mind the extra few miles up to Galway city, especially after the extra drama over the past few weeks.
