WITH THE Vodafone Comedy Carnival mere days away, organisers have revealed to the Galway Advertiser, just a few names from the stunning line-up they have put together for Karl Spain’s always full, never dull, Late Night KARLnival.
This is a late night show, hosted by the most in-demand MC in the country, where the comedians really let their hair down. The stand-up sets are a bit darker and a lot looser than the other shows but all the better for it. Each show has five/six comedians performing 10 minutes of material – a little slice of comedy genius from each performer. Sometimes in live comedy, it’s the unexpected that can create the biggest laugh, and if you want to see top class international acts go off script a little, this is the show for you.
On Friday: Scottish superstar Kevin Bridges will be joined by sketch geniuses, Foil Arms & Hog and some mystery guests. Saturday sees Today FM superstar and TV3’s Blind Date host, Al Porter join the curmudgeonly comic genius Rich Hall, and others, for not just comedy, but possibly a sing song as well. On Sunday, the blackest man in comedy shares the stage with the whitest man in Ireland as Reginald D Hunter and Bernard O’Shea let loose.
Keeping the whole thing flowing – thanks to his skills as an MC, as well as his alcohol avoidance - is Karl Spain. Karl has been in stand-up comedy for more than 15 years. Last seen losing a few ounces on Celebrity Operation Transformation, he is also well known for his TV series Karl Spain Wants A Woman. He recently enjoyed the premiere of his first pantomime, Freezin’: The Story of The Snow Queen which he co-wrote with Al Porter. They also co-wrote a short film for Sky 1 as part of the Irish shorts series. Karl was a resident writer for Republic of Telly and writes for numerous other comedians.
Tickets are available from vodafonecomedycarnival.com and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street. Be warned – this one always fills up early and with the roster of big names just announced, this year will be no exception.
