Rosie Carney to play Róisín Dubh

English born Donegal singer has been compared to Joni Mitchell

BORN IN Hampshire in 1997, and moving to Ireland when she was 10, Rosie Carney grew up in Downings, a Gaeltacht village amid the vast, rugged landscapes of the Rosguill peninsula, County Donegal.

At just 16 she signed a recording contract with Universal Polydor, which led her to write songs with Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs ), Angelo Petragalia (Kings Of Leon ), and Charlie Fink (Noah and The Whale ). However in 2015 she was released from her contract, but this setback did not stop her. Within months she had been invited to play the prestigious SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. She also made it onto NPR’s Top 100 song list, and made contact with Stevie McMinn, one of the team behind the X NOVO label.

In February this year she released the acclaimed single, 'Awake Me' which Clash called "a tender, moving, and highly mature work from a young talent" and saw Hotpress declare, "her beautiful music and singing at times, recalls the vivid and imaginative folk ambience of Joni Mitchell".

The artist has also gone public on her daily battle with mental health, and her openess on the subject has won much applause. “I couldn't believe the response I recieved after opening up about something I was once so ashamed of," she said. "It broke my heart to see the amount of messages from people who had never spoken up before. I feel it is my duty to the people to help empower and encourage a change in perspective."

Rosie plays the Róisín Dubh on Sunday October 15 at 8pm. Support is Henry Jamison. Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
