Kumon helps students advance ahead of their peers

The Kumon adventure starts with a careful diagnostic test which explores what each student can comfortably do, and even what he/she can learn to do next with timely but minimal guidance. By finding the place at which the student has robust understanding, and back tracking a small bit to ensure that the academic foundation of the student is absolutely robust, Kumon students have the opportunity to develop good work skills while honing accuracy and speed through developing their memory.

Good work skills are crucial to the student in order to be able, eventually, to advance independently beyond his/her school level. It is working ahead of their school level that gives students tremendous confidence in their own abilities to address work they have not previously met before.

The secret of Kumon maths is that students eventually advance through the materials on their own, rather than having each new topic explained at length. The greatest hope is that children will gain the motivation to continue advancing and experience the joy of learning independently, without asking others for help.

Students who advance beyond their school grade level and develop a high level of academic ability usually show development in terms of character. They develop self confidence and composure which enables them be considerate of others and think about what they can do to help in society.

Kumon celebrates above school grade level performance with bronze medals for students six months ahead, silver medals for those two years ahead, and gold medals for students who are three years or more ahead of their peers internationally.
