More than €1 million funding for Galway under Town and Village Scheme

More than €1 million in funding has been allocated to 13 development and enhancement projects towns across County Galway under the Town and Village Scheme.

The investment of +€1 million for Galway is part of an overall national fund of €20 million under the Town and Village Scheme. Of that total allocation, €100,000 will go towards the line marking of footpaths in Ballinasloe; with another €100,00 going to enhancement works around the Loughrea Lake area; €98,351 is for playground and pedestrian area resurfacing works in Corrandulla; €77,880 is for a bus shelter, bandstand, paths, and signage in Ballygar; €77,600 will go towards refurbishing footpaths in Woodford; €72,000 is for constructing footpaths in Tully/Tullycross; €64,000 will go towards streetscaping, footpaths, and tourism projects in An Spidéal; €56,000 is for park development on Inis Mór; and €38,400 will go towards walking trail enhancements in Clonbur.

There will be allocations of €80,000 each for a harbour side public amenity park in Clifden, a walking trail extension in Caherlistrane/Belclare, for enhancement works to a bus shelter and footpaths in Headford; and restoring an “iconic structure” in Ballyglunin.

The funding has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway West TD and Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources, and Digital Development, Seán Kyne. “The scheme,” he said, “shows the commitment the newly-established Department for Rural and Community Development, and the Government, has to supporting rural Ireland and communities rights across the country.”
