A new booklet on sexual health aims to create greater awareness of sexually transmitted infections which have increased by 30 per cent in the west in the past year.
The publication entitled, “A simple guide to your sexual health” was launched at NUI Galway recently.
John Flannery, general manager of AIDS West, which provides care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, described the booklet as a “concise, user friendly guide to sexually transmitted infections”.
He said it also provided local and national details about where people can seek help if necessary.
The keynote speaker, Dr Shay Keating from The Drug Treatment Centre Board, Dublin, gave a comprehensive presentation on the major STIs and the treatment options for these infections.
The booklet in addition to posters and leaflets are being delivered to doctors and health centres in the west over the next couple of weeks. They are also available by telephoning the AIDS West office at Ozanam House, St Augustine Street at (091 ) 566266.
