Irish Comedian of the Year, Galway heat

The biggest comedy competition in the country rolls into town this Friday as Róisín Dubh Comedy Clubh hosts Galway’s only heat of the Irish Comedian Of The Year competition.

Expect fierce competition and only the finest material as 10 seasoned veterans and hopeful newcomers bring their best eight minutes to make you burst with laughter.

Heats are taking place throughout September in Dublin, Belfast, Galway, Cork and London, all hosted by Ireland’s hardest working MC and all round good guy, Andrew Stanley. One of the country’s top MCs, Andrew is a fan favourite at Electric Picnic where he will be hosting the comedy tent over the weekend.

Last year’s competition winner, Steve Bennett will headline this week’s heat. Steve is the proud holder of the title ‘Irish Comedian of the Year 2016’ and will find it hard to relinquish.

Roisin Dubh’s regular MC has had a hectic year following his 10-week working tour of Australia. "I have been a lot busier since I won the title, I feel like it has been easier to get gigs. I can say to promoters, ‘I’ve won this competition’ and because of that, more places will give you a shot. Winning a competition like that is like getting a qualification, it gives you a bit of leverage. It makes a potential promoter say, ‘Maybe this guy’s not shit’."

Doors open at 9pm with the show starting at 9.30pm. Admission is €10 in advance and €12.50 on the door. The first 30 revellers in only have to pay €8 with the price including a free Jager at the start of the show.

Tickets are available from Róisín Dubh, OMG Shop Street, and roisindubh.net
