The picturesque village of Clarinbridge will take its annual step back in time this Saturday, September 2, when it once again holds its hugely popular market day. This is the 25th anniversary of the event, and organisers say this year’s market day will be even bigger and better than before.
This is a day when the local community displays local traditional culture and fare for all to see and enjoy.
The market day kicks off on the Village Green at 12 noon and continues right through the afternoon until 6pm. Throughout the day, costumes, practices, and wares from days gone by will be on display. There will be in excess of 50 stalls on and around the Village Green, displaying a mixture of home produce and beautiful hand crafted goods.
In addition to the many and varied stalls, there will be demonstrations of traditional farm practices, including threshing, churning, spinning, traditional hand crocheting, traditional open-fire baking, and much more throughout the course of the day.
For the mechanically minded, there will be a display of vintage machinery around the edge of the green.
Possibly the biggest attraction of the day each year is the array of farm and other animals with their young, including goats, donkeys, cows, calves, and poultry. To further ensure the children are entertained during the day, there will be face painting, hair braiding, jumping clay, and much more.
No market day would be complete without musical entertainment, and various local musicians and dancers will perform all day.
Clarinbridge market offers a magnificent day out for all the family on the first Saturday in September. It is an experience not to be missed.
