The Redingtons of Clarinbridge to be relaunched this weekend

Clarinbridge and Kilcornan will always be associated with the Redington family; a progressive, liberal, gentry family who generously developed schools, churches, village greens, and many woods and amenities.

In 1999 Joe Murphy published his book The Redingtons of Clarinbridge – Leading Catholic Landlords in the 19th Century. In recent years many people have asked for the book to be re-published, as it was out of stock, and a limited number of the books have now been reprinted.

The book traces the story of the Redingtons from their arrival in Galway in the Cromwellian era to the demise of the family in the 1930s. The book tells the fascinating story of this family, with their many ups and downs, as well as examining their contribution to public life at county and national level.

The book also contains a large selection of interesting historical photographs.

The book will be re-launched in the Parish Hall, Clarinbridge, on Sunday August 27 at 12.30pm. All are welcome. Guest speaker will be Professor Martin Cormican of NUI Galway. Light refreshments will be available.
