Study QQI Level 5 and 6 courses in Galway Community College

The PLC Further Education College in Galway Community College offers QQI Level 5 and 6 courses commencing in September. These are full time courses, offered in six specialist departments: social care; business, IT and secretarial; graphic design and motor technology; film, music, and theatre; sport; and science.

Doing a PLC course has many advantages for students who may not fully know their preferred area of study and it also acts as a viable route to higher education courses. GCC's link with GMIT allows Level 6 students to progress their studies entering at year two. A PLC course offers practical training for students, with smaller classes and expert tuition, with work experience in local businesses.

GCC offers a broad range of Level 5 and 6 courses, with tutors developing new courses and new modules in line with industry trends in employment with links to higher education. While studying in GCC you can expect a friendly, inclusive, environment, and the college has a strong reputation for excellent tutoring and progression opportunities. GCC is ideally located close to the city with free parking, a café, modern facilities, and full time career guidance. All courses are eligible for a SUSI grant.

Popular new courses introduced last year included equine studies, biomedical science/laboratory studies, and Level 6 business management, while new for this year is Level 6 horsemanship.

On completion of a PLC course a maximum of 390 points can be achieved for progression to third level education. Successful completion and certification of a QQI Level 5 course allows you to apply through the CAO system for any course up to 390 points. Close ties with industry in Galway city and county and a focus on third level education are key factors in what has made the PLC college at GCC a centre of excellence.
