Scullion to play Róisín Dubh next weekend

SCULLION, FEATURING three of Ireland's leading musicians - Sonny Condell, Philip King, Robbie Overson - make a welcome return to Galway to play the Róisín Dubh on Sunday August 27 at 8pm.

Scullion began in the summer of 1979, when singer-songwriter Sonny Condell, formerly one-half of acclaimed folk-rock duo Tír na nÓg, was sharing a flat with guitarist Greg Boland, who had played on Camouflage, Sonny’s debut solo album. Around the same time, singer/harmonica player Philip King who had quit teaching for music, also became their flat mate.

The Mulligan label encouraged the three to join forces. King came up with the name 'Scullion' (meaning, a kitchen servant ), and their eponymous debut album was released in 1980, after which they built a strong following through their live shows. They released the albums Balance and Control (1981 ), White Side Of Night (1983 ), and Spin (1985 ), after which Boland left, to be replaced by Overson.

Scullion went on an extended hiatus while King made a number of acclaimed documentaries for TV and radio; Overson worked with Karen Casey and Eimear Quinn, and released a solo album; while Condell continued to write songs, worked with Overson, and reformed Tír na nÓg with Leo O'Kelly. In 2012, Scullion reformed and released the Long Wave, followed last year by live album, Under The Moon.

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
