Alan McMonagle to read at Utter Word

Acclaimed Galway author of Ithaca in Oranmore

THE WRITERS Alan McMonagle and Nicole Flattery, and the artist Dolores Lynn, will headline the next Utter Word, the series of literary events at the Oranmore Library, which takes place on Wednesday August 9 at 7.30pm.

Long-listed for the Desmond Elliot prize this year, multi award-winning author Alan McMonagle is a Galway-based Irish writer who has won critical acclaim for his wonderful, black-comic debut novel, Ithaca. The Dublin Review Of Books called it "assured and poised, hilarious and poignant, a tour de force".

Following her winning the prestigious White Review Short Story Prize, Galway-based Nicole Flattery will read at Utter Word. Her work has been featured on BBC Radio 4 and in The Stinging Fly and The Irish Times. Working in various media, Dolores Lynn composes detailed studies of the Irish landscape, which incorporate both imagery and history into her finished works. She will discuss her inspiration and motivation behind her art.

There will be an open mic after the featured readers. Early arrival is advised as the first five writers to register on the night get to perform. The event is run by the Oranmore Community Development Association.
