La Maison Chic bespoke interiors has just completed the refurbishment of Spanish Point House in Co Clare. This house, now a luxury guesthouse, was built as Sea View House by Francis Gould Morony, formerly of Miltown House, in 1830, replacing an older building. Morony willed Sea View to his wife’s niece, Miss Stoney, who married Captain Robert Ellis.
In 1870 the house was inherited by the Ellis family who added the two wings to the building. Thomas Gould Ellis was their son and heir. In January 1929, Thomas, with the intention of moving to Dublin, wrote to Rev Mother M Cecilia Cahill offering to sell Sea View if the community wished to purchase it. As the Sisters of Mercy were interested in establishing a convent in Spanish Point at that time, negotiations were entered into at once and a purchase price of £2,400 was agreed on.
Now Spanish Point House has undergone a refurbishment with the expert design of La Maison Chic, using refined wallpapers and fabrics from Colefax and Fowler, Osborne and Little, and Zoffany as well as luxurious carpets and mahogany furniture. This period building under the ownership of Pat and Aoife O’Malley is now revived for the pleasure of guests who can enjoy any of 12 luxurious classic rooms and suites with some of the best sea views in the country in Spanish Point, overlooking the beach.
